Relativistic particles (E_kin>>m₀c²) travel essentially at the speed of light c. However, along the propagation length L the distance between two particles of similar energy γ₀, but with a small energy difference corresponding to Δγ<<γ₀ changes by ΔL on the order of ΔL~(1/γ₀²)(Δγ/γ₀).
