By Train:
The Munich S-Bahn commuter rail lines S1 and S8 travel directly from the airport to the conference location (Rosenheimer Platz) and connect with all other subway trains in the city center. At the airport follow the S signs to the S-Bahn platform entrance. Purchase an appropriate subway train ticket (see subway info below) from the machines on the platform. Board either the S1 or S8 trains. For travel to the conference location exit at Rosenheimer Platz stop. It is a short walk from there to the Holiday Inn and one can stay dry by remaining under ground all the way to the hotel.

S8: Travel time to Holiday Inn is 35 minutes (10 stops). Train departs every 20 minutes between 04:02 and 01:02.

S1: Travel time to Holiday Inn is 51 minutes (17 stops). Train departs every 20 minutes between 04:31 and 00:11.

By Lufthansa Airport Bus:
Lufthansa Airlines operates a bus service between the airport and Munich Main Train Station. It leaves from Terminal 2 every 20 minutes between 06:20 and 21:40 and picks up passengers at Terminal 1 and a third airport location. The bus makes two stops in Munich: Munich North / Schwabing (connection to U6 subway) and Munich Main Train Station (see details below). The bus costs 10 € one way and requires further travel by subway to most final destinations. It is therefore advised to take the S-Bahn from the airport instead.

By Taxi:
Hiring a taxi from Munich Airport to Holiday Inn costs around 60 €.

The conference center (Rosenheimer Platz) can be reached very simply and quickly by S-Bahn from the Main Train Station. Follow the S signs to the S-Bahn platform entrance. Be sure to purchase a subway ticket before entering the platform (see subway info below). Take any S-Bahn train travelling in direction Marienplatz (in german, "Richtung Marienplatz"). Exit at Rosenheimer Platz (travel time 6 minutes, 4 stops).

From A8, Autobahnkreuz Brunnthal
Follow the freeway to its end at Ramersdorf. Go straight ahead into the Rosenheimer Straße. When you reach the Gasteig turn left into Hochstrasse. The Holiday Inn is on the left side almost immediately after the turn.

From A8, Stuttgart
The freeway ends at "München West". Follow the main road, Verdi-Strasse/Amalienburgstraße, Menzingerstraße/Arnulfstraße. Takes you by the main train station. Turn right into the Altstadtring/Sonnenstraße direction München Ost. At the Isartor turn right into the Zweibrückenstraße. Cross the Isar in front of the Deutsches Museum. Follow the main road into the Rosenheimer Straße. Turn right into Hochstraße. The Holiday Inn is on the left side almost immediately after the turn.

From A9, Nürnberg
You can leave the A9 at Schwabing and follow the Mittlerer Ring southwards until you turn right into the Rosenheimer Straße. When you reach the Gasteig turn left into Hochstraße. The Holiday Inn is on the left side almost immediately after the turn.

From A94, München Ost
Follow the freeway to the end at München Steinhausen. Follow the direction "Center" on the Einsteinstraße. Turn left into the Innere Wiener Straße at the Max-Weber-Platz. Turn left in the Rosenheimer Straße when you reach the Gasteig. Turn right into the Hochstraße. The Holiday Inn is on the left side almost immediately after the turn.

Munich's subway network is divided into two rail systems identified at street entrances by S and U. A full network map containing both networks as well as bus and tram information can be viewed here (PDF). A simplified graphical display of both networks can be viewed here (PDF).

During the day in the city center S-Bahn trains run every couple of minutes; U-Bahn trains run between every 5 minutes and every 20 minutes, depending on the particular line. Both networks stop running or run very infrequently after about 01:00 and don't begin regular service again until around 05:00. Detailed timetables can be viewed here.

A ticket is always required for use on the city's S-Bahn, U-Bahn, tram and bus services. All four services utilize the same tickets which can be purchased from machines inside all subway stations and at many bus and tram stations. Subway ticket machines are almost always in German, but tickets can also be purchased from newsstands within subway stations and at many newsstands throughout the city.
