Synopsis
I am a research physicist working within the international ATLAS collaboration performing high energy particle physics research at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. At MPP I am leading our ATLAS group dealing with the Inner Detector. We have contributed to the design, construction, commissioning and operation of the SemiConductor Tracker (SCT). In 2009 we have changed focus and joined the Pixel Detector group. In the first long shutdown of the LHC we contributed to the refurbishment of the Pixel Detector and to the construction and commissioning of the new Insertable B-Layer (IBL) and its CO2 cooling system. We have developed novel thin planar pixel sensors for the planned upgrade of the ATLAS Inner Tracker (ITk) to be operated at the high luminosity phase of the LHC, the HL-LHC. Presently, our hardware focus is on the assembly and characterisation of pixel modules for the ITk. We also perform physics analyses of ATLAS proton-proton collision data in the area of top quark physics, mainly concentrating on precision measurements of the top quark mass, and the related improvements in detector calibration and the reconstruction of physics objects. Another area of my research is the combination of measurements of physics observables, like the top quark mass, obtained from different experiments. In this context I have developed a software package named BLUE.
I am Privatdozent at the Faculty of Physics of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. Within our research activity we offer a number of thesis topics for Bachelor-, Master- and PhD students.
